Facebook: One more way to embarrass myself

So I guess if you can't get your heterophobic gay friend to tell you you're hot, the universe will send someone else to do it.*

I saw that I had a message when I logged into facebook. Usually I get junk mail from groups that are sending mass emails to everyone about upcoming events, but this one was from an acquaintance who graduated last year. He wrote:

by the way, i always thought you were absurdly hot. no disrespect intended, just a statement of fact. it's possible that we'll never see each other again so you might as well know. PLEASE don't take it the wrong way. good luck in life and all that you do!

I was flattered. My impression of him was that he had been a pretty popular guy and a talented musician. Also, a friend of mine freshman year was obsessed with him. His message was kind of adorable, and I always love it when guys clarify that they're not being creepy. So I wrote him back:

Thank you :) I always thought you were an absurdly nice guy. I wish I could have gotten to know you better while you were still here. If you're ever in town we should hang out!

Afterwards, I realized that I may have insulted him by not calling him absurdly hot in return (who likes the "You're such a nice guy" response?). Still, if I had called him hot, he probably would have assumed that I'd like to have sex with him. This way it sounded a little more platonic. I remembered that he didn't live in the city, so I assumed I might never see him again.

So I was a little unsure whether to be excited or nervous or terrified when he replied:

i'm in town about half the time. i have to travel alot for gigs and such but i'm around. i'll hit you up on facebook next time i have a good chunk of free time. see you!

... This could get rather uncomfortable, since I haven't decided if I would actually want to see him when he comes to town.

*I will eventually stop talking about how hot I am.

HAHA! No you won't. You need to keep fooling yourself into believing that you are.

You can schedule your time with him to coincide with time with LOTS of other people, and then there's no pressure! You don't even need to talk to him! ;)

TAB, you are pretty hot, but dropout has huge boobs...

Awww! A nice ego boost for you!

Yes. The chicks here want to see how hot you are.

Nothing wrong with a little bit of ego...

His response seems innocent enough ... if you don't want to go out alone with him do it in a group setting.

sometimes a girl just needs to feel hot.

Another musician? I think they are your weakness. (Mine too. Or any guy that looks like he should be a musician.)

I did the exact same thing with a girl I went to school with. We were friends who hadn't seen each other in a while. I was not trying to hook up though. Just letting her know how I felt.....But if you're that hot, I would probably try to see where it leads.

he defintely thinks hes going to get laid now.

just so you know. once you open that door of chance.....your going to have to slam it rather forcefully and rudely shut.

I agree.. picture time. Plus I'm dying to agree w/ one of your surgeons who said you look like Angelina Jolie..

On the boy - play it platonic-y. A drink couldn't hurt if you want to see him and he's probably trying to keep it friendly - and maybe see if you had any interest. If you're not sure, he sounds like he'd be ok w/ just being friends not that he wouldn't be open to something more. Men always are - no matter how nice. ;)

In my experience, people who self profess hotness, usually are referring to their body temperature during a case of the cooties....or have one of those carnival mirrors that distort their looks... not saying that you have one of those mirrors, but when is the last time you had your temperature taken?

And when I referred to us meeting, I wasn't trying to get in your pants.

wanderlusting, eileen dover - Let your imagination be your guide... otherwise you could get disappointed, and I could get nasty comments.

dropout - ... I have no feelings.

strange bird - Now... I could hang out with him in a group, but ignoring him is simply rude. tsk tsk.

ripsy - Is that how you compliment every woman? Your girlfriend is awfully lucky.

monicker - Ego would be if I replied "I know I'm hot, dumbass" instead of blushing and thinking "wow, cool!"

airam - I'll keep that in mind, good call.

spill the beans - I wish it was all the time, don't you? Confidence would be refreshing.

emma5 - What guy doesn't know a little guitar? And flute? And piano? ... My first two boyfriends weren't musicians though.

anon - How did that work out for you?

the very - I've learned this, and yet I keep opening these doors. It's like I'm stupid.

miss devylish - See my response to wanderlusting and eileen dover. I'll probably take your advice on the boy.

anon - So if I don't self-profess that makes me more attractive by default? It's not like I wrote the message to myself. Also, don't pretend to be the guy who messaged me if you're calling me unattractive, since he obviously thinks I'm hot.

I doubt you would get nasty comments, and if you do, they are probably just jealous like a few anonymous people sound like they are.

And sugar.. we're just being supportive.. Obviously your anonymity (lord, how do you spell that) is respected.. No one here who takes you seriously would get from your blog that you're full of yourself that it's actually a problem. We know how you mean it.. and if someone doesn't, they should really examine their sense of humor and sarcasm. I would think it's lacking.

TAB, I almost went to facebook to find you.
You sent me an e-mail a long time ago from your school, and I'm pretty sure I could find you.

I thought how much fun it would be to be friends on Facebook.
Then I looked at my profile and thought about all the things you would think of me after seeing it.

And I decided against it... Cheers to Anonymous Blogging!
