Sex education

Every Wednesday during my psychology lecture about sex, there is a flamenco dance class in the studio next door. Today, while we tried to hear our teacher talk about boners, I listened to the rhythmic stomping of the dance class.

I turned to my friend sitting next to me and told her it sounded like sex. She considered and then shrugged, not finding it quite as amusing as I had.

When the tempo increased and the stomping got louder, I gave her a meaningful look.

Oh... yeah, I take a class about sex. And guess what? It's fun to learn about sex! Who would've thought? As I learn more and more about arousal and the penis from a detailed biological perspective, I feel like more of an expert. I then think to myself, "Know your enemy." I then laugh at my own joke. Penises are definitely not the enemy; I have more trouble looking at the diagrams of vulvas than the penises.

My professor is really awesome, and in every class he tells us an anecdote from his personal life. This usually ends with him trailing off and leaving us to our imaginations, which delights me because he usually looks embarrassed. Today he was talking about a woman he dated one summer who wore Coppertone sunscreen all the time, and said that every time he smells Coppertone now, he instantly thinks about sex/intimacy/her. I've never experienced the same thing, but... Has that ever happened to you?

Altoids. My first boyfriend ALWAYS smelled like Altoids (in the beginning), because he had them ALL the time. I never can smell them anymore without thinking of making out with him. Not much more than that, because by the time we were having sex he'd moved on from the Altoids somewhat and was chewing cinnamon gum. Which I hate.

The smell of honey or the sight of wood ticks does it for me.

Everytime I look at a jar of vaseline...I think of prison...

Drakkar Noir cologne. Every time I smell it, I think of high school dances and gorgeous older boys.

The olfactory sense is the most tied to memory. Smells will bring back instantaneously vivid memories from the past. Hence the reason Coppertone reminds your professor of his certain past lover.

Now that you're an expert on sex, I hope you can answer something that's been bugging me for years: Is sex, or is sex not, a natural act?

And you know my smells-termites, blood, and poop.

Whenever I smell pumpkin pie it reminds me of happier times in my childhood. Those times are gone forever. Thanks.

Davidoff Cool Water reminds me of my highschool jerk of a boyfriend and Calgon Turqoiuse Seas body spray reminds me of a vacation in Mexico (with another high school boyfriend, not so much a jerk).

Woodchips on a hot day reminds me of horsecamp...and no, nothing perverted happened there.

Colognes do it for me: Issy Miyake (sp?) reminds me of one of the loves of my life.. Angel for men always reminds me of one of the lusts of my life.. Love the smell-kicks-in-memories thing.

strange bird - You are always the first commenter. Always. I salute you.

the dancing bear - Is that a joke? Cuz... bear? Right? If not, cool. Me too.

rune - When you say "think", do you mean "fantasize"?

the ambiguous blob - Gorgeous older boys? Count me IN.

bluelovergirl - I believe that's exactly what my professor said. Whoa. Are you my professor? And a man?!

dropout - What about dead babies? And um... it depends how you define "sex" and "natural". And, as Clinton might argue, "is" as well.

grant miller - Suck it up, grant.

wanderlusting - Yeah right. There has to be a kinky story if there are woodchips involved. At least, there is in my head.

miss devylish - I don't know anything about cologne. I guess Axe reminds me of The Ex.

I'm not sure if it's pheromones or what, but I think a person's smell is what attracts you on some weird biological subconscious level.

Yeah, and what Bluelovergirl said. A smell alone can get me hot and bothered.

bluelovergirl's right, olfactory sense is tied strongly to memory.

for me it's garage odors. Used to make out with first boyfriend in his garage.
