Not one of "those"

I realized today: I'm not one of those people who just sits around and hangs out. I was thinking about it, about people I know (or mostly people I don't know...) who just sit around and hang out a lot. They just do nothing much during their free time. I'm not one of those. I'm the one who has to take the hardest workload possible at college, and then take an unrequired and time-consuming internship that doesn't pay. For my future, sure, but that just brings me back to my point: I'm not just hanging out on my time outside class.

"But when I graduate next year," I thought, "I'll have a bunch of time to just relax, outside of regular work hours."

There are two problems with this, I realized. First, it's never as relaxing as it sounds, when you factor in the commute and the grocery shopping and the bill paying and the cooking and cleaning. Second, I won't have a regular job, probably. I'll probably have a 60 or 70 hour/week job, and I'll always be working toward something better. Maybe it's just who I am.

Or maybe next year I should just say "whatever" to all that and do nothing that isn't absolutely required of me by my school.

Tomorrow there will be a real post, with a lot of juicy story... about certain people I have been avoiding blogging about. Until then.....

Free time? Are you including or not including time spent watching very important tv shows? ;)

hmmm, i've noticed a pattern in ur posts...the time at which u publish em! almost always you publish em between 1 & 8PM (+/- ~1Hr). Assuming that u spend a few minutes on the net before and after u publish ur posts and atleast half an hour just to compose and publish em, it turns out that u spend quite a lot of time at leasure! FYI, hanging out at work doing nothing counts towards doing nothing, believe me i speak from experience.

I disagree with bumbleb. 'Work nothing' and 'regular nothing' are not the same. When I'm at work doing nothing, it's not what I would be doing if I had all that time to myself. I would be socializing with a whole different group of people, and I would be engaging in activities that I cannot do at work, such as drinking a beer, watching tv, and listening to music. 'Work nothing' is much more restrictive.

I agree with beatrix. Definitely two different "nothings" -- though I am the kind of person that likes to "hang out."
Can't wait to hear the juicy stories!

I have no doubt you will find plenty to do. Hopefully something more fun than cooking and cleaning - how about lots of dating? Lots of good sex? Lots of sushi?

That's how I was in school. So busy and such an overacheiver. Then I got into the real world and thouhgt I would have that great job but in reality I have lots of free time and it's awesome.

I have trouble relaxing too...it's come to the point where I travel and do all my relaxing in three week periods....then no more relaxing until the next one.

After you graduate give yourself time to relax and veg before you venture out into the work force to rejuvinate yourself.

I agree with Airam.

If I had gone to college straight after high school, I would have definitely needed to take a break and travel after, take some time to relax.

Instead I decided to intersperse traveling with going to school, so I had the luxury of having lots of time to relax inbetween.

Unfortunately, it means I have never had to really work too hard for anything, which might bite me in the ass one day. But if I can end up doing well in life on minimal effort, I'm gonna exploit that while I can ! :)

I don't enjoy free time. I spend it all thinking about the things that I could be getting done. I can't even watch TV without a laptop in front of me getting work done on my business.

cee-gee - I think we should avoid being in the same room together. Things might explode.

chelle - Whoa, that is unfair! Okay, I watch Grey's Anatomy every week. And when I get a few hours of extra time, I catch up on various other shows like House, Ugly Betty, The Office, 30 Rock... But I only watch Grey's live.

bumbleb - I'm with beatrix. And the fact that I publish my posts between 1-8pm just means that I do it in the afternoon/evening, not that I'm online every day for 7 hours. I also never post at work.

beatrix - Thank you, I totally agree.

the very - I don't have TIME for commando! ;)

heather - Thanks for the support... and sorry I lied about posting my stories...

s* - Is that... could that be sarcasm?

bluelovergirl - I know I'll find something to do. Hopefully it won't feel like an obligation, though.

notbubbly - I'm considering making you my new mentor...

grant miller - Soon, grant. As soon as you juice something.

wiscoblonde - That sounds like something I would do. Hopefully it won't be... :-/

airam - Yes... I thought of that, but that might be hard to do if 1. I don't have enough money and 2. I don't have the restraint to hold myself back from doing more work.

wanderlusting - I definitely want to travel, and I fantasize about taking time off. I just don't know, when it comes down to it, if I'm going to do it.

dylan - That sounds exactly like me. Do you always feel stressed out?
